Hallloooo there, I hope your week is going just great so far. If you saw my Instagram or Facebook post yesterday, you’ll have a pretty good idea how I’m feeling — shocked, stunned, and very honoured. 😍
So many of you may remember the story of this print and how it came to be. Earlier in the year I learned about The 100 Day Project and decided to jump in. I did a series of small gouache paintings on 3" x 4" paper (a variety of art paper, vintage botanical reports, etc) that were all local plants to me, and I was learning about the indigenous use of each. Fast forward to a few months after the project ended, I decided to make those paintings into an art print and wallpaper/fabric design (omg the amount of scanning, cleaning up, etc for 100 small paintings). 😂 I've only recently started selling some of my art as prints from my own site, so I added that one in when I was setting everything up.
Recently when I sold one of the 100 Day Project prints (I called it Pacific Northwest Botanicals), when I was doing the ordering with my printer I noticed that the email address was a woman who worked at the Prince's Trust, an official charity of the Royal Family. I'd done their Prince's Operation Entrepreneur in 2016, a week-long business bootcamp for serving and recently released members of the Canadian Armed Forces. It was basically like doing a MBA in a week, it was very intense, but great. So I didn't know why they had purchased the print, like whether one of their staff had found me through their veterans biz directory or whatnot, or maybe it was for their office or something. Nope, it turns out that it's part of a birthday gift box sent directly to His Majesty King Charles III (his birthday was yesterday). Holy cow, that's a sentence I never thought I'd say! 😂😂😍 Here's a link to the original post from the Prince's Trust on IG, you can see their image below.
So to say I’m stunned is an understatement, having my art sent directly to a King was definitely not on my 2023 bingo card… 😂😍😍😍
Oh and in other news, Spoonflower just sent out an email saying all their wallpaper is 20% off which is awesome. As I mentioned above I also arranged the paintings into several repeat print variations, so they’re also available as wallpaper and fabric.
Here’s a graphic I made with the four types of wallpaper Spoonflower sells, I hope you can see the detail and texture in it. Of course if you have any questions about the paper, the texture and weight, etc, please feel free to ask. 😊
